Call to Order: Meeting was called to order by Chairman King at 6:30 pm, the Pledge of Allegiance was recited.
Verify Open Meeting Notice & Roll Call: Open meeting notice was verified. Chairman Maurice King, Supervisor Dennis Meis, Supervisor Dave Zdroik, Clerk Angie Lochinger and Treasurer Josie Napiwocki were present. 7 Town Residents\Visitors.
Approval of March 21, 2018 Minutes: Supervisor Zdroik motioned to approve the March 21, 2018 Minutes as presented. Supervisor Meis seconded. Motion passed 3-0.
Citizens wishing to Address the Town Board: Eric Barnes stated that he and other residents in his area on Lake Dubay are trying to limit weekend rentals. He explained they have had some issues with these renters in the past. They have started a petition to try to prevent short term rentals (6 days or less) on the lake and plan on presenting it to Portage County Planning and Zoning.
Jerry Kizewski inquired if any board members are requesting any compensation for attending the Town of Dewey Plan Commission meetings. Chairman King and supervisor Meis stated they have claimed a per diem for some of those meetings. Mr. Kizewski then asked why they are having so many town board meetings instead of just one a month. Chairman King explained they have meetings when they have business to conduct. Mr. Kizewski went on to inquire why the board denied the quarry’s request to allow hauling on Saturdays. Supervisor Meis explained that decision was made at the last meeting and concerns should have been discussed then. Mr. Kizewski also requested some brush cutting be done at the intersection of Haymeadow Drive and Birch Drive.
Doug Evica asked why there was no sand put down on the ice this past winter on Haymeadow Drive and in that area. Chairman King stated those roads were sanded all the time.
Review insurance coverage with representative of Rural Mutual Insurance: Jon Berger, a representative from Rural Mutual Insurance, attended the meeting to review the current insurance coverage. Mr. Berger and the board also discussed transferring our current property insurance with some changes as our current coverage with the Local Government Property Insurance Fund will no longer be available after this year due to the program ending.
Property insurance coverage with Rural Mutual Insurance: Supervisor Meis motioned to switch our property insurance coverage to Rural Mutual with the changes discussed. Supervisor Zdroik seconded. Motion passed 3-0.
Quote specifications for replacement vehicle for the current 3500 truck: Brian Hafferman, a representative from Stainless & Repair, attended the meeting to discuss specifications the board would like to have for the replacement vehicle for our current 3500 or one ton truck.
Request quotes for the replacement vehicle for the current 3500 truck: Chairman King stated they will postpone action on this agenda item, explaining the board needs to fine tune the specifications first.
Broadband expansion grant application: Chairman King met with a representative of Amherst Telephone company last December to discuss partnering with them on the application for a grant for broadband expansion into the Town of Dewey. At that time he reported he would be checking back with them in the Spring of 2018 to see where they are on the grant. Supervisor Meis offered to contact Amherst Telephone company to start the grant process.
Brush/Yard Waste Disposal Policy: Chairman King created a Town of Dewey Yard Waste/Brush Disposal Policy which states if anyone has any yard waste or brush to dispose of they can call to set up a time to meet with someone at the disposal site. You can view this policy on the Town’s website under “Notices”.
Supervisor Meis motioned to approve the Town of Dewey Yard Waste/Brush Disposal policy. Supervisor Zdroik seconded. Motion passed 3-0.
Review the updated inventory of Town, Fire Department and EMS equipment and property: Chairman King explained all Town, Fire Department and EMS equipment and property inventory has been reviewed and updated. The board reviewed the updated list of inventory for the Town.
Chairperson’s Report: Chairman King stated the road workers have been busy plowing and have opened some culverts. They have also updated the Town garage inventory list and have been updating the Fire Sign, Street Sign and Road Sign lists. Chairman King also provided a report from a recent WTA district meeting he attended.
Correspondence: The Board reviewed correspondence.
Set Meeting Dates & Agendas: The next Town Board Meeting is scheduled for Wednesday April 18, 2018 at 6:00 pm at the Dewey Town Hall.
The Annual Meeting is scheduled for Tuesday April 17, 2018 at 6:30 pm at the Dewey Town Hall.
Approve and Pay Bills: Supervisor Meis motioned to approve and pay the bills. Supervisor Zdroik seconded. Motion passed 3-0.
Adjournment: Chairman King adjourned the meeting at 8:47 pm.
